Layout Developments

Minor adjusments made to the layout. Top line of type in the logo changed from Rosewood Stc regular to the filled version.

Added box around text in similar style to that in Katie's layout. I think I like the slightly slanted one. When rolled over it would change to go (slanted version would be made of course).

What do other people think? Any changes? Any preference of layout/logo size/type etc?
Hey so some more modifications need to be made so ill post them each time i do one so pass on comments! here goes......

is this any better??

This is what i have done with the text i had created the other day, sorry internet is playing up so only just been able to get it onto here. I have used grey's and blue to give it a sharper look but if you could show me how to do tht stroke thing you mentioned the other day i would appreciate it i have tried to work it out but i am a bit new to it all! Below is the profile page i have mustered up still in a bit of a first stage development but a few words of advice would be much apppreciated here it is anyway!

Map typography

I've stuck with the use of Rockwell and developed some type for the results page. The lists of states will show when the mouse is rolled over the corresponding group of state. i.e. McCain victories list will show up when a Republican state is rolled over.

Trying to make the state names pop out from the background slightly with a bit of shadowing, what do you think? It'll be very subtle as there's already a lot going on.

See you tomorrow.

Work done today.

I've been working on the front page.

I really feel we have a theme coming together, it makes me smile!

Thought we could do with some sort of title image, announcing what our site is about. This doesn't have to be on a single page, just incorporated into the main page with the heads (as will be shown below). However, was thinking if I had time I might attempt a simple animation as an intro to the site. Other things come first of course!

As you can see, when made smaller the top row of text "ten things you should know about the" loses its legibility. So I will have to rework that and develop in more, maybe trying to find a typeface that resizes well. Also have tried 'American Typewriter' as an alternative font to 'Rockwell' for their names, will keep developing this.

However, you can see the page layout is coming together a lot better. Hope you like! :-)

Map progress

Rollovers and text still need to be developed.
Thinking of having the names of the states appear as you rollover the corresponding blocks of democrat, republican and swing states.

Rollovers/Behaviours

Just to show an example of what was developed on Thursday between Katie and I:

We worked on creating rough templates in Dreamweaver. I turned them into a basic working web page.

This is the front page. Using roll overs, and the behaviours as shown to us by JN, when you move the cursor over Obama, he smiles but McCain frowns. The same also happens when you move the cursor over McCains face. He smiles, but Obama frowns.

Its basically the rough visuals from Thursday's tutorials in working form. It's unfinished and I'm going to develop it further for Thursday's tutorial. :-)

(Also got two versions of profile pages made by Katie [show in earlier post] to be working pages, with functioning links that are rollovers too.)

Visual Reference

Building on the reference material Katie has suggested, alternatively to a wanted poster style, we could also consider a government official document style, or see if the two styles could be blended effectively.

The quality of paper in the image above is appealing due to the colour and texture.

I found this newspaper image abover to be interesting, as the typefaces used don't co-ordinate, and the layout is flawed - but it fits well with the previous visuals of the wanted poster/radiohead tickets.

This is a pretty cliche image, I think its a pre-made background for livejournal or something, but I liked the idea of the paper clip showing lots of files held together (disregard the top secret stamp, its pretty irrelevant for our idea me thinks).

Type

Kane! Looks great. Laura and I were talking today about the wanted poster idea too. We had the idea of doing the type on the computer, printing it off, physically copying it then re-scanning  and editing it, keeping it in line with the cut and paste/illustrative style of the index page and the map etc.

I did a short mock up earlier and a little bit of visual research.

Visual Research

A nice visual layout found here.

This is an image of the structure i thought would look quite good on the profile page, i took the inspiration that laura had posted and tried to incorporate that into this any feedback would be good. I thought keeping the party's colour as the heading and then mixing tonal shades of black and greys would give it a quite striking effect?? let me knw what you think

Map development

Typographic Inspiration?

Here are some interesting examples of typography that we could incorporate into the style for our website, as suggested by JN.

Further Development

Here's some development with the actual profile pages and possible link images, rollovers could be good here. I like the idea of using the party logos as links and shows a bit more personality to the profile pages.

Still using just the rough layout choices. So this isn't definite.

Development

Now we have a 'look' sorted out i.e. the old parchment paper and subtle overlays . Here's some layout try outs and possible solutions. Still yet to be designed are the text frames that the profiles will be in the typography of the profile.

Found this amazing map that has nice scroll overs of the results. Still trying to find a running order of the election day results. I'll keep looking.
